Get vaccinated as soon as you have fully recovered from COVID-19
The Far West Local Health District is reminding people who have had COVID-19 that they can get vaccinated as soon as they have fully recovered.
'Vaccination is our best weapon against the COVID-19 virus and this includes people who have been infected already,' said Mr Umit Agis, Chief Executive, Far West LHD. 'There is no need to delay vaccination if you have fully recovered and we strongly recommend it for everyone aged 12 and over.'
If you received your first COVID-19 vaccine before you were infected, please wait until you have recovered before having your second dose.
Mr Agis said people should talk to their GP if they are unsure about when it is best for them to get vaccinated. People are also encouraged to visit the NSW Health website for the latest information regarding COVID-19.
Mr Agis said people aged 18 years and over who received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine six or more months ago are eligible for a booster vaccination at state-run clinics, GPs and pharmacies.
This includes severely immunocompromised people aged 12 years and over, who are strongly urged to get a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine - this can take place in the two months after the second dose. This is to address the risk of a reduced or non-response to the standard two-dose schedule.
People with the following immunocompromising conditions and therapies for which a third primary dose is recommended include those with:
Active haematological malignancy
Other malignancies with current active treatment including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and/or hormonal therapy
Organ transplant with immunosuppressive therapy
Stem cell transplant
Immunosuppressive therapies
Primary immunodeficiency including combined immunodeficiency and syndromes
Advanced or untreated HIV
Long-term haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
If you are unsure if you fit these criteria, please consult with your GP or treating specialist.
