Large Car Park at Broken Hill Hospital reserved for public for easier access
Access to the Broken Hill Health Service for patients and clients, especially the elderly, during daylight hours has been improved with a major car park reserved exclusively for their use.
The car park closest to the main hospital entry (opposite the horseshoe entry to the hospital - see map) is now reserved for patients, clients and visitors only between 7am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
'We have over a number of years received feedback and concerns from the community and staff about access to convenient parking in the hospital grounds, particularly for our elderly and/or infirm clients and visitors,' said Ms Pam Charnock, Director Nursing and Midwifery, and Site Manager, BH Health Service.
'This is particularly concerning during busy clinic times, and became more evident during the recent COVID-19 restrictions that closed the Thomas Street entry to the hospital (since reopened),' said Ms Charnock.
'We have reviewed options to ensure access to car parking for our patients and this measure will improve access to car parking for those who most need it that close to the entry.
'We hope the new arrangements will respond to those concerns raised with us,' said Ms Charnock.
Signage has been installed to show the times that the car park is open for patients; clients; and visitors only. The car park will be open to all users outside of those times.
Ms Charnock thanked all staff members and health councillors who recently contributed to discussions about car parking options at the hospital.
'As a responsive health service focussed on the needs and care of our patients and community, it is pleasing that a parking option could be arrived at that is agreeable to everyone using the facility.'
