New Assistants in Medicine join COVID-19 response at Far West LHD
Four medical students have joined the Far West LHD workforce as Assistants in Medicine (AiMs) to help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The final-year students have taken up the new roles specially created as part of the COVID-19 response planning by Far West Local Health District and NSW Health.
The four AiMs recruited for Broken Hill Health Service are Sarah Wray, Emma McGhie, Stephen Morris and Ian Carey.
The AiMs work under supervision of registered medical practitioners in non-COVID-19 areas as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will be supervised during their appointment.
'Assistant in Medicine is a new role that has been established as part of the surge workforce planning,' said Dr Andre Nel, Director Medical Services, Far West LHD.
'It will allow redeployment of junior medical officers as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will give the AIMs greater responsibility as they contribute to the COVID19 response,' he said.
The AIMs are temporary roles appointed at Broken Hill Health Service until December 2020.
