'We recognise those nurses and midwives who have provided extraordinary and compassionate care, in holding our annual Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards,' said Ms Dale Sutton, Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Far West LHD.
'I am inviting the public to be involved and nominate a nurse or midwife in the respective award category. This is your opportunity to acknowledge care which has been of an exemplary level, provided to you or your loved ones,' she said.
The awards celebrate International Day of the Midwife on 5 May 2021 (when Midwife of the Year will be announced) and International Nurses and Midwives Day on 12 May 2021 (when the Nurse of the Year Awards will be announced. The 12 May is also the anniversary of the birthday of famous nurse Florence Nightingale.
This year's awards include six peer nominated awards and one consumer-nominated award (the Healing Heart Award). They are:
- Nurse of the Year (AIN/EN/RN)
- Midwife of the Year (RM/AIM)
- Aboriginal Nurse/Midwife of the Year (AIN/EN/RN/RM)
- New to Practice Nurse/Midwife of the Year
- Team of the Year Award (Nursing and/or Midwifery Team)
- Judith Meppem Leadership Award
- Healing Heart Award
Nominations for the Midwife of the Year Award close on 27 April 2021 at 5pm. Nominations for other award categories close on 30 April 2021 at 5pm. Nomination forms can be found on the FWLHD website at https://bit.ly/3sFyaKO or at your local Far West LHD health facility.

Ms Sutton said the Far West LHD was excited to be able to recognise and acknowledge the passion, dedication and amazing contribution of our nurses and midwives within the Far West LHD in this year's awards.
The successful award recipients will also be nominated in the NSW Health Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards 2021 which will be held in Sydney later this year.
