Far West LHD will be urging the public to be proactive and embrace the Dementia Action Week (18-24 September) theme of ‘Act Now for a Dementia-Friendly Future’.

The Far West Local Health District is once again welcoming final year dental students who will help to boost care for local patients during their six-week placement at the public dental clinic located at the Community Health Centre.

During September, local Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse Ruben Hillier will be raising funds and awareness about prostate cancer though participation in a 72km walk called The Long Run, an annual initiative of Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA)

The Far West Local Health District is partnering with Lifeline Connect Broken Hill to deliver a Bereavement Counselling Service to the local community. The new service will provide counselling and individualised support to people experiencing difficulty following the death of a loved one.

The right diagnosis, and the right treatment at the right time can mean many wounds can be healed. That’s the key message the Far West Local Health District is highlighting for Wound Awareness Week 2023 (4-10 September) under the theme ‘Let’s Get Wound Care Right!’

The Broken Hill community is being given its first look at new designs showcasing the expanded Emergency Department (ED) and new Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIPU) being delivered at the Broken Hill Health Service.

Local students can learn all about the variety of health careers available to them here by attending the Careers Expo on Wednesday (16 August) at the Whitehouse in Broken Hill.

The Broken Hill community are to benefit from a donation of nearly $160,000 from the Broken Hill Hospital Kiosk volunteers.
