About our arts program
The New Bankstown Hospital will include a comprehensive Arts in Health cultural strategy to create a welcoming, vibrant hospital which promotes health and wellbeing.
The New Bankstown Hospital is currently in the planning process for the redevelopment. As part of the early planning process, more than 100 staff members were asked what makes Bankstown unique.
The feedback received states that it is a place with a strong cultural identity. Staff said that Bankstown was unique, with a strong sense of community and family connections, diverse, multicultural, connected, warm and vibrant.
The arts and health strategy that will be formulated for the hospital will aim to reflect this.

Multi-panel artwork
Indigenous artist Amy Lea Hill collaborated with local Elders to create a multi-panel artwork called The River Communities. The artwork celebrates the Indigenous stories surrounding the region. The work was commissioned to form part of the expansion of the Emergency Department.
