2021 Patients' Experience and Perceptions Study published
The Justice Health NSW Research team have celebrated an important milestone, with the recent publication of their 2021 Patients’ Experience and Perceptions Study.
Led by Senior Research Nurse Prabin Chemjong and Forensic Psychologist Panayiota Zingirlis, the report discusses a study to redesign how Justice Health NSW measures and reports patients’ healthcare experiences.
The study was conducted in two phases. The first phase gathered qualitative data to understand patient experiences and perceptions (published here). The second phase used the data to form a questionnaire for patients, shaping the newly published research.
From the study, it was found that nearly half of the participants said they use health services more in prison than in the community, and positive interactions with healthcare staff were reported across several key areas including:
- Feeling comfortable asking questions
- Feeling listened to
- Having needs communicated in a way they understand
- Time and privacy when discussing health needs
- Being treated with dignity and respect
