Blue skies for new grads at Blue Mountains Hospital
A teenage dream to care for people has come true for a new graduate nurse who has embarked on a rewarding career at Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital.
Georgia Stark is one of 14 new graduate nurses who have recently joined the team at Blue Mountains Hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Currently on her first rotation at the Hospital, Georgia is excited about what the year ahead will bring.
“I’m working within East Wing on the medical and surgical ward. It’s such an amazing learning opportunity to develop my skills as an RN. It’s only going to get better as I rotate again later in the year,” says Georgia.
Throughout their first year, graduates are provided with opportunities in a variety of clinical settings to ensure they gain a range of experience and consolidate skills and knowledge already developed.
No stranger to the area, Georgia has called Blue Mountains home since she was 4 years old. Her local hospital and now place of work is only a stone’s throw away.
"I chose to be placed at Blue Mountains Hospital for my new grad because not only is it local to me, but I was placed there as a student nurse and loved the environment and the staff."

I knew that I would love the new grad program because I had watched other new grads before me go through and love their time there,” Georgia explains.
“The team here have been amazing, there are always opportunities to debrief after a shift and help is always available. Like any job you can have good and bad days but overall, the team have been so great to work with and more than willing to help whenever I need it.
“I’ve also found senior staff very willing to share their knowledge and experience. In just 3 weeks I’ve had so many learning opportunities, which is important for me to develop as a registered nurse.”
Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Blue Mountains Hospital, Deanne Green welcomes the nurses and midwives as they embark on a new career filled with boundless opportunity.
“At Blue Mountains Hospital graduates can practise in fields including medical, surgical, aged and emergency care, women and children’s health and mental health,” says Deanne.
“We have such an incredibly talented team here. Our new graduates already feel like part of the family and they can rest easy knowing they will continue to receive the best possible training whilst working on the frontline.”

When asked for words of encouragement regarding starting a career in health Georgia did not hesitate in her reply.
“There are so many different roles within the health system and there’s bound to be one that suits you. There are constant opportunities to further your career and develop as an individual or even change roles and follow a different path down the track,” say Georgia.
The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District welcomed 131 graduate nurses and midwives to its workforce this year, providing a significant boost to the health system.
