Cleared for take off
A familiar sight has returned to the skies above Lithgow Hospital following the construction of a brand new helipad.
NSW Ambulance helicopters can now resume landing within hospital grounds to transfer patients to and from the hospital to receive important, lifesaving care.
Aviation consultants signed off on the installation this week after successful tests were conducted as part of the commissioning process.
Acting Lithgow Hospital General Manager, Bronwyn Boyling noted the complexities of building a new helipad from the ground up and says she’s excited to see the return of helicopters landing at the Hospital.
“Building a helipad is more than just pouring a slab of concrete. A lot of engineering goes into its design. You need to ensure it can carry the weight of the helicopter, and include sophisticated lighting systems to allow it to land safely,” says Bronwyn.
“While we’ve had a temporary arrangement for helicopter transfers at another local site during construction, it’s great to have the final product and see it put to use.”
“This new helipad will ensure the hospital continues to provide the best care available to the community,” says Bronwyn.
