Community gives thanks for frontline heroes
As our committed frontline workers stepped up to meet the challenge of this latest COVID-19 outbreak, their spirits were buoyed by messages of thanks and support from the community.
The emails, social media messages and handwritten notes hailing our courageous health heroes helped to encourage staff as they worked at busy pathology labs, testing and vaccination clinics and manned health check stations at hospital entries.
On a record-breaking day that saw cars queued for kilometres at the Sydney International Regatta Centre drive-thru testing clinic, the extraordinary efforts of staff were met with thanks and kind words.
Amongst the kudos was a handwritten note and drawing from a 9-year-old girl. Her note read “Thank you for staying late to make sure we are all ok. I think you are all great.”
Praise for our dedicated staff also poured in to the Nepean Blue Mountains Health Facebook page where community member, Virginia sent thanks to COVID-19 testers.
“You are all doing an amazing job with such cheerful patience! Well done! I recognise some of you from my visit! So impressed with your professionalism and efficiency!” she writes.
Local resident, Nicole adds, “Thanks for your hard work and putting yourselves out there to keep us safe. Immense appreciation!”
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Chief Executive, Kay Hyman thanked the community for their ongoing support.
“This is a difficult time for everyone. Our staff have put in tremendous efforts to help keep our community safe and protected from COVID-19,” Mrs Hyman says.
“We’re all in this together and these messages of support mean so much to all our staff.”
“We are all so proud of their efforts and dedication. Whether they are working in testing and vaccination clinics, in the laboratory conducting pathology tests, screening visitors or supporting our facilities and hospitals to stay safe, I’d like these staff to know that they truly epitomise the word ‘hero’ and the community they care for agrees,” Mrs Hyman says.
