Lithgow nurse’s career begins next stage
As one of five graduate nurses to start at Lithgow Hospital in the last month, Keely Hunter will be a familiar face to many.
Keely has spent the last two years working on Lithgow Hospital’s inpatient ward as an enrolled nurse while she completed her nursing studies.
Now in her first weeks as a registered nurse, Keely says her experience as an enrolled nurse has really helped her to settle in to the new role.
“While I have a different level of responsibility now, the things I learnt in my previous role, such as time management, team work and communications skills, have really helped me out.”
Keely says her passion for nursing has grown throughout her time at Lithgow Hospital.
“I love working with other nurses and nursing provides a lot of options and variety for areas to specialise in,” Keely says.
Currently working a rotation in the emergency department, Keely says she has discovered a love of critical care which may eventually lead to further study.
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Heath District welcomed 58 graduate nurses and midwives earlier this month. The newly registered nursing and midwifery staff will spend the year rotating through a number of clinical areas including medical, surgical, aged and critical care, women’s and children’s health and mental health.
