A new era of health care for the Nepean Blue Mountains region is dawning with the completion of construction of Stage 1 of the Nepean Hospital Clinical Tower.

Premier Dominic Perrottet and Minister for Health Brad Hazzard visited the new hospital
The new 14-storey tower - one of the tallest hospital buildings in Australia - was toured by NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Minister for Health Brad Hazzard and is a key part of the $1 billion Nepean Redevelopment infrastructure project.
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Board Chair, Peter Collins AM QC says the new hospital building provides the facilities for staff to deliver outstanding patient care.
“The new Nepean Hospital Clinical Tower stands as a beacon to all of Western Sydney. It recognises Nepean Hospital as a place of opportunity where innovative models of care can be practised, new technologies can be applied and clinical research realised to help improve and enhance the liveability of our region,” says Mr Collins.
NBMLHD Chief Executive, Kay Hyman says this is the community’s hospital with staff and community input playing an essential part in the design of the building and the services that will be delivered there.
“Patients, consumers, their families and our staff have been directly involved in the design and development of Stage 1. I’m incredibly proud of all the hard work everyone has put into this new building and how it will service the community now and well into the future,” says Mrs Hyman.
The tower includes an expanded emergency department, 18 birthing suites, a neo-natal intensive care unit, 16 operating theatres, more than 200 beds and a roof-top helipad. It is opening in stages from mid-2022 following a comprehensive commissioning process.

“Our staff have been anticipating this exciting day. It’s been such a long time coming and as the building has risen so too has excitement of staff. I can’t wait to see how the community reacts and I hope they share the same level of enthusiasm as our staff,” says Mr Williams.
“Stage 2 of the project is just on the horizon and it continues our promise to transform health services for the community.”
Stage 2 of the Nepean Redevelopment will include a new intensive care unit, in-centre renal dialysis unit, medical imaging and nuclear medicine services, cardiology services, more beds, community health services and a front of house for the hospital.
Construction of the second phase is set to get underway later this year.
