Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Health Brad Hazzard today joined Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres to sound the horn on the start of the demolition of the Pialla building to make way for the hospital’s multi-storey carpark.

“The NSW Government is making a record investment in first-class health infrastructure right across the state and the $576 million Nepean Hospital redevelopment highlights this commitment,” says Ms Berejiklian.

Mr Hazzard said construction on the multi-storey car park, on the corner of Parker Street and Barber Avenue, was being prioritised to free up space for the new hospital tower, which will be built on the site of the current carpark.
“The NSW Government is delivering on its promise to provide first-class health services closer to home for people in the Penrith and Blue Mountains areas,” says Mr Hazzard.
“This significant redevelopment will include several major improvements to Nepean Hospital, including a doubling of capacity in medical oncology, almost doubling in birthing suites and at least 12 new operating theatres.”
Stage 1 will also include:
- A new clinical services block
- A new and expanded emergency department
- More than 200 beds in new accommodation
- A new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- New community health services
- 18 birthing suites in new accommodation, an increase of 10
Deputy Chair of the NBMLHD Board, Greg Allchin says this is an exciting time for our Local Health District.
“Nepean Hospital has a long history serving the needs of our community, and improving the health of our community, and I look forward to watching it grow throughout the Redevelopment,” says Mr Allchin.
CPB Contractors has been awarded the early contractor tender for Stage 1.
Mr Ayres says cancer services will also receive a huge boost with a significant expansion for Nepean Hospital’s cancer centre.
“The community will benefit greatly with a doubling of chemotherapy chairs from 15 to 30 as part of the project, and additional funding for a third radiotherapy bunker and linear accelerator for radiation treatment,” says Mr Ayres.
The helipad will be relocated to the roof of the new clinical services tower during Stage 1 of the redevelopment.
Staff and community will continue to be consulted on the redevelopment to ensure the best outcome for clinicians, patients and visitors.
Construction on the multi-storey car park is scheduled for completion in early 2019.
