BCNSW eCert API for the electrical industry
We’re working on a new API that will integrate the BCNSW eCert portal with existing business systems and software used by electricians.
Key information
We’re developing an API to enable approved electrical businesses to securely integrate BCNSW eCert with eligible business software and systems used by electricians.
The API will allow businesses to send the data needed to generate Certificates of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) directly from their business system to the BCNSW eCert portal.
Development has just started and we expect to have an API ready for the electrical industry in May 2026.
We’re working with a number of software providers and businesses to develop the API so that it meets the requirements of electrical businesses in NSW.
We’re inviting eligible businesses to express their interest in using the API when it is ready.
What will the API do?
The API will allow eligible businesses to connect their own systems and software to the BCNSW eCert portal. It is intended for:
- Job Management System (JMS) software providers and other work management software vendors that provide products to licensed electrical contractors.
- Businesses with a company or partnership contractor licence who want to connect and submit CCEW via their own business systems.
- DCCEEW registered CER Installer Portal users.
If your electrical business currently uses job management software or other work management software, check with your provider to see if they plan to integrate with the portal. If you and your provider would like to get involved, you can submit an expression of interest.
Who is eligible to use the API?
The API will only be available to approved businesses via a formal application process. Access is only granted to businesses that meet the eligibility and compliance requirements.
Submitting a CCEW is a legal declaration. To protect the integrity of the certification process, any organisation using the API must meet identity, licensing and validation requirements as set out in legislation.
To be considered for API approval, your Job Management System (JMS) or internal business system must be able to:
- validate the identity of the electrical licence holder who is submitting the CCEW (these validation checks must meet legislative requirements).
- confirm that the person submitting the CCEW holds a current and valid electrical licence.
- confirm that the person submitting the CCEW is the same individual who is lodging the CCEW.
Accessing the API for your business
If you’re interested in using the API to integrate with your business systems and software, you can submit an expression of interest. Your information helps us:
- understand your system capabilities and internal business processes.
- involve potential users in requirements scoping and testing for the API.
Your business must be approved before an API integration can be used for CCEWs.
We will publish a formal application and approval process for the API access once finalised in the coming months.
How to submit your expression of interest
Your expression of interest must include the following:
- Organisation name
- Contact person and contact details
- Business type (JMS provider, software vendor, electrical business)
- A brief description of the system you want to integrate with the portal
Send your expression of interest via email to: bcnswecert@customerservice.nsw.gov.au
After you submit
We will contact you to discuss your submission. If you’re eligible, your business may be invited to participate in consultation and testing.
Selected participants may begin preparing for API onboarding ahead of the 1 July 2026 requirement.
Note: submitting an expression of interest or participating in consultation and testing does not guarantee approval to use the API.
Key dates
The development of the API will occur in phases. These dates are indicative and may change as technical and regulatory work is completed.
Updates will be provided on this page as the development continues.
- February 2026: Requirements gathering
- March - April 2026: Build and testing
- May 2026: Target API availability
