The Building Commission NSW audits plumbing and drainage work in the Sydney, Illawarra, Blue Mountains, and Newcastle-Hunter areas. Learn more.
Plumbing and drainage inspections conducted by the Building Commission NSW
The Building Commission NSW conducts an audit-based system for inspecting plumbing and drainage work in Sydney, the Illawarra, Blue Mountains, Newcastle and Hunter, where properties are connected to:
- Sydney Water sewer infrastructure
- Hunter Water sewer infrastructure
- Altogether Group sewer infrastructure in Pitt Town, Box Hill/The Gables, Cooranbong, Huntlee and North Rothbury.
The inspection system allows for only a portion of the plumbing and drainage work to be inspected rather than all of it. Plumbers and drainers are required to book an audit inspection but they will not know if the work has been selected for an inspection until the appointment time.
Inspections conducted by local council delegates
Contact the relevant local plumbing regulator to confirm inspection requirements for plumbing and drainage inspections atproperties that have onsite wastewater treatment. And for those that are connected to local council-owned sewer infrastructure such as:
- Windsor and some surrounding areas in Hawkesbury City Council
- Crangan Bay in Central Coast Council
- Catherine Hill Bay in Lake Macquarie City Council
Note: Not all local councils on the fringe of Sydney conduct plumbing and drainage inspections. To find out who the regulator is in your area, see local plumbing regulators.
