Portable Rental Bonds Scheme
The Portable Rental Bonds Scheme will allow you to digitally transfer your bond between rental homes.
What is the Portable Rental Bonds Scheme
The Portable Rental Bonds Scheme (the scheme) will aim to reduce the financial stress of moving between rental properties.
The scheme will allow you to digitally transfer your bond from one rental property to the next. This means you won’t need to set aside extra money for a new bond before your previous one is released.
Read the original announcement for the Portable Rental Bonds Scheme.
How the scheme will work
Once launched, the scheme will use the existing Rental Bonds Online system.
Eligibility
To access the scheme, you’ll need:
- an existing rental bond
- to be moving between rental properties with the same name(s) on the lease
- to be using Rental Bonds Online.
What landlords and agents need to know
The scheme is an agreement between tenants and the NSW Government and will not impact landlords. Under the scheme, the Government will pay any agreed bond claim to the landlord and recover the amount from the tenant.
