Appealing a decision made by a community housing provider
If you do not agree with a decision your community housing provider has made, you may be able to appeal.
What you can appeal
You can appeal decisions made by community housing providers, including decisions about:
- eligibility for community housing
- transfers
- offers of housing
- rental subsidy calculations.
Appeal directly to your community housing provider
There are 2 steps to appealing your community housing provider's decision:
Make an appeal through your housing provider
This is considered a ‘first-tier appeal.’ You can ask your housing provider for an appeal policy and form.
If your appeal with your housing provider is unsuccessful
If your appeal is unsuccessful, the Housing Appeals Committee handles the second-tier appeals process.
If your first-tier appeal was not successful, you can make a second-tier appeal.
When to appeal to NCAT instead
Some matters may come under the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) including maintenance and lease issues. Visit the NCAT website to learn more about what NCAT can help with.
