Funded supports available to residents in an assisted boarding house
If you have a resident with a disability they may be eligible for either NDIS or for My Aged Care, depending on their age.
If you're a housing provider in an assisted boarding house, your residents with a disability may qualify for extra support. Which organisation provides that support depends on your resident's age.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS supports people with a permanent and significant disability. The disability must affect their ability to take part in everyday activities.
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) administers the NDIS. The NDIA develops individual support packages for eligible participants. Participants must be under the age of 65.

My Aged Care
If your resident is 65 years of age and over, they will not be eligible to access the NDIS. However, they may be eligible for help through My Aged Care.
My Aged Care is a national service that provides:
- information about aged care services
- funding for aged care services.
There are different types of aged care services that are available. The My Aged Care Contact Centre can explain them. The staff will ask questions to help understand the applicant’s needs.
