Services of community housing providers
What community housing providers do and how to find one.
About community housing providers
There are over 230 not-for-profit community housing providers (CHPs) across NSW. These CHPs provide housing help to people on low incomes. People receiving this type of help are often unable to access appropriate housing in the private rental market. The housing types provided by community housing providers include:
- social housing
- affordable housing
- supported housing.
CHPs work with a range of partners, including:
- Homes NSW
- other non-government organisations
- local councils and the private sector.
This collaboration helps providers develop, deliver and manage a range of housing products. Community housing providers lease properties owned by Homes NSW. They sometimes also receive funds to deliver housing services from Homes NSW and other partners.
Some larger providers develop housing stock. These providers pay private organisations to manage properties and tenancies on their behalf.
Around 30 CHPs participate in the Housing Pathways multi-provider access system. This is in partnership with Homes NSW and the Aboriginal Housing Office. These providers allocate properties to tenants from the NSW Housing Register.
