Changing, renewing or ending your public housing tenancy
You can apply for a transfer if your home no longer suits your needs or through a mutual exchange. Tenants receive fixed-term leases of 2, 5, or 10 years, reviewed for extensions before expiry. To end your tenancy, provide 14-21 days' notice.
Changing your tenancy
If your current home no longer suits your needs, you can apply to transfer to another property.
The mutual exchange program helps you find other public housing tenants who want to swap their property.
We may also transfer tenants for management purposes, like redevelopment or under-occupancy.
Renewing your tenancy
Public housing tenants receive a fixed term lease of 2, 5 or 10 years. Before your lease ends, we will review your eligibility for a lease extension. If you’re eligible, you will receive a further fixed term lease of 2, 5 or 10 years. We will issue a notice to legally extend the previous tenancy. This means you will not have to sign a new tenancy agreement.
Ending your tenancy
If you are ending your tenancy, please complete the Notice to Vacate Form. You can access this through the Tenancy Online form or contact your client service officer.
You must give us 21 days notice in writing if you leave public housing. If you are on a fixed-term tenancy, the notice must be 14 days.
