Running a business from home in public housing
How to get approval to run a business from home if you live in public housing.
To run a business from your home as a public housing tenant, you will need to live in it at the same time.
Approval will be given if you and the business:
- comply with relevant laws and local government regulations relevant to operating a business from a residential property.
- do not increase wear and tear over and above the level that would be normal for a home.
- meet your obligations under the Tenancy Agreement, in particular, clauses where you agree “not to cause or permit a nuisance... and not to interfere or cause or permit any interference with the reasonable peace, privacy or comfort of any neighbour”.
- have a current public liability insurance policy appropriate to the type of business.
- do not expose Homes NSW to excessive risk.
- comply with other relevant Homes NSW policies such as declaring household income.
