Building NSW’s National Parks System
What's this about?
A NSW National Parks System Directions Statement has been drafted to guide the building of the state's network of public conservation reserves.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service acquires land for public conservation reserves through various means, such as the transfer of other public land or the voluntary sale of private land. The statement sets out how and why new parks will be established over the short term, including the targets and priorities for acquiring new land.
The directions statement is a revision of the Directions Statement for National Park Establishment publicly exhibited in early 2015 and addresses comments received from the public at that time.
It will also complement the Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy, which outlines an approach for encouraging biodiversity conservation on private land and is also on public exhibition.
Together, the two documents represent a strategy for establishing an integrated protected area network across NSW.
