Companion Animals Regulation Review
What's this about?
The NSW Government is currently undertaking a statutory review of the Companion Animals Regulation 2008 (the Regulation). This Regulation, which is made under the Companion Animals Act 1998, provides key information about how pet cats and dogs (companion animals) are identified, registered and managed in NSW.
A Discussion Paper about the Regulation has been released for public comment. The Office of Local Government (OLG) is seeking feedback on whether the Regulation is effective in promoting responsible pet ownership in NSW.
This is an opportunity for the community to help identify areas where the regulatory framework for managing companion animals in local communities could be improved.
Feedback to the Discussion Paper will inform the development of a draft Regulation and Regulatory Impact Statement, which will be released for consultation later in 2017.
