Gwydir Alluvium Water Resource Plan

Topic: Environment

The Department of Industry is seeking feedback on the Gwydir Alluvium Water Resource Plan.

What's this about?

The draft Gwydir Alluvium Water Resource Plan covers groundwater within the main alluvial deposits associated with the Gwydir River from approximately 20-kilometres downstream of Copeton Dam, continuing north-west through Bingara to Biniguy through to approximately 45-kilometres west of Moree.

The draft plan applies to all groundwater in the following groundwater sustainable diversion limit resource units:

  • Lower Gwydir (GS24)
  • Upper Gwydir (GS43).

Water resource plans are a key requirement of the Commonwealth Basin Plan 2012. The plan determines how water resources will be managed. It shows the resources covered, their level of development, environmental assets and geography affecting the way the rivers are managed. The plan also includes a number of statutory and policy documents.

All feedback is welcome, including any new evidence or information that could be considered in the final accreditation of the water resource plan.
