Murrumbidgee Surface Water Resource Plan

Topic: Environment

The Department of Industry is seeking feedback on the draft Murrumbidgee Surface Water Resource Plan.

Bridge over the Murrumbidgee River in Gundagai

What's this about?

The draft NSW Murrumbidgee Surface Water Resource Plan is currently on public exhibition. It outlines how NSW will meet the requirements of the Basin Plan in the NSW Murrumbidgee Surface Water Resource Plan Area.

The draft plan incorporates the water sharing plans for the unregulated and regulated water sources in the Murrumbidgee.

Some changes to the draft plan include:

  • implementing Pre-requisite Policy Measures (PPMs) or piggy-backing and re-crediting of return environmental flows
  • establishing a second compliance, which is the sustainable diversion limit specified in the Basin Plan 2012, and to incorporate an associated assessment and compliance framework for this limit as required by the Basin Plan
  • revising environmental and economic strategies and performance indicators, including Aboriginal objectives
  • standardising Environmental Water Advisory Group's (EWAG) provisions across all plans with EWAG’s
  • removing groundwater sources and associated rules in unregulated plans.
