Namoi Long Term Water Plan

Topic: Environment

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is seeking feedback from the public on the Namoi Long Term Water Plan.

What's this about?

The Namoi catchment is a major Murray-Darling Basin catchment located in northern NSW. It is neighboured by the Gwydir catchment to the north, the Macquarie and Castlereagh to the south and the Barwon-Darling to the west.

The network of waterways within the catchment forms a range of wetland types that provide important habitat for many native species.

The draft plan acknowledges the diverse range of human values and uses connected to local rivers and wetlands and the important ecological values of the region.

The plan also identifies the strategies for water use that will allow this system to survive and thrive into the future, setting out a series of 5, 10 and 20-year objectives to maintain and enhance the health of local rivers and wetlands.
