NSW Border Rivers Surface Water

Topic: Environment

The Department of Industry is seeking feedback on the NSW Border Rivers Surface Water Resource Plan.

What's this about?

The NSW Border Rivers Surface Water Resource Plan incorporates the water sharing plans for regulated and unregulated water sources.

Changes include:

  • Allow the Pindara Dam stimulus release outside the current period of 1 August to 1 December. This will allow more flexibility and better ecological outcomes.  Preliminary modelling indicates there will be minimal impact.

  • Protection of the flow from Macintyre River and Frazers Creek junction to the Severn and Dumaresq Rivers junction.

  • Establishment of an Environmental Water Advisory Group. The group will coordinate the management of environmental water in the NSW Border Rivers area.

The New South Wales-Queensland Border Rivers Intergovernmental Agreement 2008 continues unchanged. Groundwater in the area is covered by separate water resource plans.
