Off-the-plan contracts

Topic: Policy

The Office of the Registrar General invites feedback on possible reforms to provide clarity and certainty for off-the-plan contracts.

What's this about?

The number of residential properties purchased off-the-plan has risen dramatically over the last decade. This rise has prompted a need to review existing laws around off-the-plan contracts.

The Office of the Registrar General has released a Discussion Paper (PDF, 817kb) that canvases a range of measures to help standardise practices within the industry and provide a better outcome for purchasers and developers. The paper considers possible reforms to disclosure, standard terms and cooling off periods.
