Barwon-Darling water sharing plan

Topic: Planning

The Natural Resources Commission is seeking feedback on the review of the Water Sharing Plan for the Barwon-Darling Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources 2012.

What’s this about?

The Minister for Regional Water with the support of the NSW Premier, approached the Natural Resources Commission about bringing forward its review of the Water Sharing Plan for the Barwon-Darling Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources 2012.

Recent fish kills in the Darling River and public interest in the way the water sharing plan is operating are key drivers to start the review process earlier. The review is a statutory requirement under the Water Management Act 2000.

The review is an opportunity for the public to comment on the plan. The plan governs water sharing arrangements in the Barwon-Darling, associated environmental, social and economic outcomes and identify any opportunities for improvement.

How does this review fit with the Water Resource Plan process and other water reforms?

The review is being coordinated with the Department of Industry – Water’s Water Resource Plan process and other government agencies responsible for water reforms. It will avoid duplication of effort and will inform the Water Resource Plan where possible.
