Regional Rail Fleet Project
What's this about?
In August 2017, the NSW Government announced it would replace the entire NSW regional rail fleet, including 60 XPTs and more than 50 XPLORER and Endeavour passenger cars.
Replacing the regional rail fleet includes the design and construction of a new maintenance facility in regional NSW to service the new fleet.
The new trains will improve safety, comfort and reliability for passengers who travel from Sydney to many regional centres in NSW, as well as Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
A new purpose-built maintenance facility will be built in Dubbo, subject to planning approval. The aim is to award a contract by early 2019 with the first trains delivered in the early 2020s.
The proposed plans for this site will be placed on public display from 8 – 28 August 2018.
Transport for NSW is asking for community feedback on the plans as part of the planning approval process.
