Review of wagering taxation

Topic: Economy

The NSW Government is seeking feedback on whether wagering taxes should be updated in NSW, in line with other states and territories.

What's this about?

NSW wagering tax on racing and sports betting is currently levied at the physical point of sale and does not capture most online wagering. Online betting has experienced significant growth in recent years.

Many online wagering companies are physically located outside of NSW and are not required to pay the existing wagering tax.

The NSW Government wants to understand how changing wagering taxes in line with other states and territories would operate, and whether it is the right move for NSW.
