What's this about?

The Snowy Water Licence defines Snowy Hydro Limited's rights and obligations in relation to water in the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

The licence is subject to mandatory reviews, initially after five years and then at intervals of 10 years. The NSW Department of Industry – Lands & Water commenced the first 10-year review of the licence on 28 June 2017.

A draft report outlining the review’s preliminary findings is now available for public comment. It proposes:

  • administrative amendments to the licence
  • a plan to investigate ways to improve the delivery of environmental flows and maximise water use efficiencies
  • improvements to how Snowy Mountains water resources are managed.
