Sydney Gateway Road Project
What's this about?
Sydney Gateway is part of the NSW Government’s vision to complete the missing links in the motorway network, improve traffic flow and reduce travel times.
It will deliver major new toll-free connections from Sydney Airport’s Domestic and International terminals to the Sydney motorway network at St Peters Interchange.
Sydney Gateway is comprised of two projects:
- Sydney Gateway road project
- Port Botany Rail Duplication – to duplicate a three-kilometre section of the Port Botany freight rail line.
Sydney Gateway is unlike most other major road projects in NSW as it passes through both Sydney Airport land, owned by the Australian Government, and state land under the jurisdiction of the NSW Government.
Sydney Gateway therefore requires approval of both the Australian Government and NSW Governments and is subject to two planning processes:
An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), prepared under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW)
A preliminary draft Major Development Plan (MDP), prepared under the Airports Act 1996 (Cth)
Read the combined EIS and preliminary draft MDP.
