Development of Water Resource Plans

Public exhibition of Status and Issues Papers: Water Resource Plans

Topic: Planning

Public submissions are invited on the Status and Issues Papers for the development of Water Resource Plans covering five groundwater sources.

River in NSW

What's this about?

Status and Issues Papers have been prepared for the following water resource plans as the starting point for the water resource planning process:

  • Lachlan and South Western Fractured Rock (GW11) and New England Fractured Rock and Northern Basalts (GW17)
  • Western Porous Rock (GW6) and Eastern Porous Rock (GW16)
  • NSW Great Artesian Basin Shallow (GW13)

Each paper defines the status of the water resources and lists existing known water issues for consideration in the water resource planning process in the respective regions.

A total of 22 water resource plans will be developed for surface and groundwater in the NSW Murray-Darling Basin regions by 2019 – a key requirement of the Commonwealth Basin Plan.

The first step in developing each of the water resource plans is the need to identify the current status of water resources, existing planning mechanisms and issues regarding water availability, access and sustainability.

Submissions from the Status and Issues Papers will help shape the development of the draft water resource plans.
