Make a submission to the bushfire inquiry

The NSW Government has commissioned an independent expert inquiry into the 2019-20 bushfire season to provide input to NSW ahead of the next bushfire season.

The Inquiry welcomes submissions from bushfire-affected residents, emergency and support personnel, organisations and the general public.

Everyone is encouraged to share their experience and tell their story to inform the Inquiry’s work.

Community visit to Port Macquarie cancelled

The Inquiry has been travelling to bushfire-affected communities to meet with and directly hear from people who have been affected. The Inquiry has already held community meetings Lithgow (25 February 2020), Tenterfield (8 March 2020) and Glen Innes (9 March 2020).

After careful consideration in light of the unfolding COVID-19 situation, the Inquiry is proceeding with abundant caution for future community consultation.

To ensure the safety of the community, the Bushfire Inquiry Community meeting that was planned in Wauchope on Tuesday 24 March 2020 at the Wauchope Showground will not be going ahead at this time.

We are exploring options for conducting community meetings through electronic means to ensure the Inquiry can continue to hear from affected communities

The website will be updated once we have finalised arrangements for the virtual community meetings.

Further information will be posted to this site as soon as possible. In the meantime, the Inquiry has extended the deadline for submissions to Friday 17 April 2020. Submissions can be made over the phone, online and in hard copy, see below for more details.

  • In-person: at any Service NSW service centre or at a Mobile Service Centre

The deadline for submissions is 17 April 2020, but this can be extended for those directly affected by the fires.
