How does it work?

Published 28th February, 2019

People and groups can participate by submitting ideas, sponsoring projects and voting for projects.

Choose a project

Step 1 – Choose a project

Come up with an idea for a project that will benefit your community. For example, it could be new playground equipment, sports facilities, paths or ramps to improve access, a community garden or an event. You can seek between $20,000 and $200,000 for your project.

Find a project sponsor to partner

Step 2 – Find a project sponsor to partner with

Reach out to an organisation that will be able to run the project if your project is successful. For example, it could be your local council, school, charity, Aboriginal Land Council, or cultural or sports club. Your sponsor will receive the funding if you are successful and be responsible for delivering the project.

Lodge your application

Step 3 – Lodge your application

Once you have confirmed support from your project sponsor, you can submit your application together with your project sponsor.

Applications open on 2 April 2019 and close at 2pm on 15 May 2019.

Vote for your favourite project

Step 4 – Vote for your favourite project (open to the public)

Now it’s over to the vote in your electorate to decide! Voting goes live on 15 July 2019 and is open to everyone 16 years or over in NSW. Voting closes on 15 August 2019.

Find out if your project was successful

Step 5 – Find out if your project was successful

Successful projects will be announced in September 2019. If you are successful, your project sponsor will receive the funding and be required to complete the project within 12 months under the funding agreement.

You can get involved in My Community Project as:

An applicant

Any individual living in NSW aged 16 years or older can submit a project for funding. Applicants will need the support of an eligible group to sponsor the project and manage its delivery if it is successful.

Applications will be open for six weeks from 2 April to 15 May 2019.

A project sponsor

A project sponsor must be an incorporated, not-for-profit organisation or other agency that is located within the project’s electorate. They must hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and/or Australian Company Number (ACN), or be registered under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (AIN).

The project sponsor will enter into the funding agreement with the NSW Government. They will be responsible for managing the money and delivering the project as agreed.
