NSW Bushfires – State Memorial

A State Memorial for those impacted by the recent bushfires will take place on Sunday 23 February 2020 at the Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park. Those attending are asked to arrive from 10:30am and to be seated by 11:20am.

The event is an opportunity to bring together members of the public from across NSW to recognise the lives lost, the sacrifices made and to show support for the families and communities impacted by the fires.

All relatives, friends, representatives of involved organisations and members of the public are welcome to attend the State Memorial.

Program

  • 10:30am: Gates open.
  • 11:20am: Attendees must be seated. Ushers will be in attendance to assist with seating.
  • 11:30am: Official proceedings commence.
  • 12:30pm: Official proceedings conclude (approximately).

Registration

Registration for the State Memorial is not required.

Accessibility

Qudos Bank Arena is for all ages and abilities. Accessible seating at Qudos Bank Arena is available.

Public transport

Travel on public transport services to and from Olympic Park will be free for emergency services personnel in uniform as well as accompanying family members or friends attending the NSW Bushfire State Memorial on Sunday 23 February at Qudos Bank Arena. Express trains will be running between Central and Olympic Park.

Trains

Sydney Trains services operate every 10 minutes between Lidcombe and Olympic Park stations. Olympic Park Station is located on Olympic Boulevard, approximately a 10-15 minute walk from Qudos Bank Arena.

Bus

Transport for NSW operates services to and from Sydney Olympic Park on a daily basis.

Ferry

Sydney Ferries operates services to and from Sydney Olympic Park. Rivercats depart from Parramatta River Wharf to the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. Sydney Buses operates Route 526 services from the wharf to the precinct for attendees attending events at Qudos Bank Arena.

Parking

Qudos Bank Arena is situated on the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Edwin Flack Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park. The P1 car park is the nearest carpark to the arena. All other onsite car parks are located within a 10-minute walk of the venue. Please note that parking in Sydney Olympic Park carparks will incur a cost. Parking information is available through Sydney Olympic Park.

Security measures and conditions of entry

Qudos Bank Arena enforces conditions of entry to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees. There will be a screening process conducted for all attendees upon entry to the arena.

Key prohibited items include:

  • no backpacks
  • no bags larger than 30cm x 30cm
  • no metal or glass drink bottles.

Dress code

NSW RFS members are requested to wear:

  • tunic with full medals
  • service dress (shirt, tie, medals)
  • clean PPC (yellows with medals).

Other emergency personnel are requested to wear uniform in accordance with agency protocols. Members of the public should dress in business attire/smart casual.

Broadcast

The Memorial will be broadcast live on the ABC News Channel and will also be streamed on the NSW Government Facebook page.
