Parkes Special Activation Precinct

Published 26th February, 2019

Parkes is the first official Special Activation Precinct (SAP), taking advantage of location, business development opportunities and employment growth offered by the east-west rail line and the Inland Rail project, placing Parkes at the crossroads of Australia.

Plans for Parkes

The precinct will create new jobs in the freight and logistics industry and optimise opportunities in the agricultural industry. Regional suppliers will be brought closer to their customers, allowing local products to be delivered across Australia and around the world.

This will increase prosperity for Parkes, the Central West region and the state by providing more investment and employment opportunities for people in the region.

Freight and logistics

Building on already-planned private and government investments, the precinct will establish an efficient transport and logistics hub that will:

  • take advantage of the Inland Rail project and improve freight and logistics, as well as providing new freight options for local businesses
  • create faster, easier access to global markets for regional producers across the Central West, particularly for agricultural producers and the agribusiness sector
  • facilitate the establishment of businesses in Parkes that will benefit from being at the centre of a national freight network.

High-value agriculture

Australia’s produce is seen as clean, green and safe. Efficiently connecting Australian produce to international markets will take advantage of this.

The Parkes SAP is an opportunity for Central West producers to access new markets, enterprises and connections to efficient transport networks, at a national and international level.

The Parkes SAP Draft Master Plan is open for feedback

After extensive community and stakeholder consultation the Parkes Special Activation Precinct draft master plan is on exhibition.  Please click here to view the draft master plan and have your say. Submissions close 11:59pm, Sunday 20 October 2019.

The master planning process included community consultation, as well as a series of technical studies to understand the ecology, heritage, social and economic considerations to help inform the draft master plan for the Parkes Special Activation Precinct.

After the exhibition period, submissions will be considered, and a final master plan will be delivered.
