Using a funeral director

Most people in NSW use a funeral director to help organise the funeral or memorial service.

Funeral directors aren’t compulsory, but most people find that they can make things simpler and easier at what can be an emotional and sensitive time.

A funeral director will usually organise:

  • completion and lodgement of death registration forms
  • placement of any press notices
  • a venue for the service
  • liaising with clergy or funeral celebrant
  • transport and care for the person who has died
  • the option to embalm and view the deceased
  • cremation or burial
  • speaking at the funeral
