There have already been more than one million customer journeys on the new North West Metro.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it is an incredible result for the new railway, which only opened two weeks ago.
“This is one of the world’s great metros and it is no surprise the community has voted with their feet and with their Opal cards,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Patronage in the metro’s first two weeks has been amazing with an average of 72,000 journeys on weekdays – a huge result for a brand new mode of transport.
“The success shows just how much commuters appreciate the delivery of this gamechanging project, which connects the area by rail like never before.”
Opal data from the North West Metro reveals:
• After the opening fare free day, Thursday, 30 May was the busiest day on the Metro with 75,876 trips.
• Wednesday, 29 May was the busiest morning peak with 23,330 trips.
• Tuesday, 28 May was the busiest afternoon peak with 27,542 trips.
• More than 3,400 metro train services have run so far
Minister for Transport Andrew Constance said feedback from customers using the North West Metro had been overwhelmingly positive.
“As with any comparable railway of this scale around the world there have been some minor teething issues and we thank customers for their patience as we continue to fine tune the system,” Mr Constance said.
“We are now getting on with the job of extending the line from Chatswood, under the Harbour, through the CBD and onto Bankstown.”
