Appointment of new Secretary for Transport
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian today announced the appointment of Rodd Staples as Secretary of Transport for NSW.
Mr Staples is currently Program Director of Sydney Metro and has been a member of the NSW transport leadership team for the last six years, with a long and distinguished career in transport services and infrastructure delivery.
His experience spans the public and private sectors with major achievements in the transport portfolio and a strong commitment to customer outcomes and value for money.
“I’ve witnessed Rodd leading complex projects at very close range, first as Transport Minister and then as Treasurer and Premier, and I have always been impressed by his command of the detail alongside his focus on the big picture,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“The fact that Metro Northwest is being delivered on time and on budget and that Metro City & Southwest is already underway is testament to his extraordinary leadership and strong record of delivery.”
Minister for Transport Andrew Constance said Mr Staples would bring the best of the private and public sector to his new role.
“Having worked closely with Rodd on the delivery of the Sydney Metro project, I have enormous confidence in his expertise to continue to drive service improvement and infrastructure delivery across all of transport,” Mr Constance said.
“He is a 21st century Bradfield, and is incredibly well respected across the Government and amongst our private sector partners.”
Mr Staples holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Business (Finance) from the University of Technology, Sydney, and has previously held a number of senior executive positions in NSW transport agencies.
He will commence in the role in January.
