Dr John Keniry AM appointed Natural Resources Commissioner
Premier Gladys Berejiklian today announced the appointment of Dr John Keniry AM as the Natural Resources Commissioner.
Premier Berejiklian said Dr Keniry’s experience and background in natural resource management made him the ideal choice for the position.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Keniry to the Natural Resources Commission,” said Ms Berejiklian.
“He brings a wealth of experience to this important role, advising on the management of some of our State’s most valuable environmental assets.
“The Natural Resources Commission requires a dedicated and experienced Commissioner to provide independent advice on a range of biodiversity and biosecurity issues.”
Dr Keniry previously served as Commissioner of the Natural Resources Commission from December 2011 to December 2016.
Alongside his time at the Natural Resources Commission, Dr Keniry has spent 20 years as a board member of the NSW Environment Protection Authority and six years as a member of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council.
Ms Berejiklian also acknowledged the contribution of Mr Brian Gilligan, who has acted as Commissioner since December 2016.
“I would like to thank Mr Gilligan for his outstanding leadership during this period,” the Premier said.
Dr Keniry will take up the five-year term on December 8, 2017.
