Education building boom in Sydney's South West

South Western Sydney is experiencing a public education building boom as a result of record investment in new schools and new classrooms to cater for rapid population growth in newly developed suburbs.

NSW Premier Mike Baird and Member for Camden Chris Patterson today officially opened Spring Farm Public School, and also detailed plans for a major upgrade for the nearby Oran Park Public School.

“Families are choosing South Western Sydney as the place to raise their children and we are supporting that choice through a massive investment in local schools,” Mr Baird said.

“The $15.5 million school at Spring Farm caters for up to 500 students, including four special education support classes.

“Spring Farm Public School is fitted with the latest technology to support high quality teaching, including a wireless network and interactive whiteboards.”

Mr Patterson said: “In its very first year, Spring Farm Public School is already living up to its motto, ‘Inspiring creative and resilient learners’, thanks to a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.”

Since 2011 the NSW Government has committed to delivering 11,000 student places in Western Sydney. Families in Sydney’s south west will benefit from a major upgrade at Oran Park Public School.

“Oran Park is a large and rapidly expanding community, experiencing unprecedented growth in recent years,” Mr Baird said.

“That is why we have committed to a major upgrade that will increase the school’s capacity to up to 1,000 students.

“This upgrade will ensure Oran Park Public School can continue to meet the future educational demands of students.”

With planning currently underway, construction is on track to start before 2018 and finish in 2020.
