More funding for Braidwood sport and recreation
Deputy Premier, Minister for Regional NSW and Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced an additional $250,000 to further revitalise community facilities at Braidwood Recreation Ground under round two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
The new funding will pay for new children’s playground equipment, improvements to spectator facilities and beautification of the grounds.
Mr Barilaro said the $250,000 will take the total Stronger Country Communities funding for Braidwood Recreation Ground to $1.13 million after $380,000 was allocated to new lights for the sports fields in April this year and $500,000 was allocated to construct the recreation ground community facility.
“The people of Braidwood live an hour’s drive from other major sports facilities, which is why this additional funding is so fantastic, to further improve the sports facilities in their own backyard,” Mr Barilaro said.
“It will provide a more inclusive space for children to play and better facilities for families, friends and serious sports spectators to cheer from the sidelines.
“Sport brings regional communities together, making towns and cities healthy, cohesive and vibrant places to live, and this project will deliver quality facilities that help to increase community sports participation and engagement,” he said.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Tim Overall welcomed the news and said the upgrade forms the second-stage of a long-term redevelopment for Braidwood Recreation Ground.
“With the new lights being used for the first night game only recently, we are thrilled to receive this additional funding which will help us continue to transform the Braidwood Recreation Ground for the Braidwood community,” Mayor Overall said.
Mr Barilaro said the Braidwood project is one of more than 250 projects already approved as part of the $200 million round two of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
“I congratulate Braidwood and look forward to the improvements that will make this town an even more attractive place to work and raise a family,” Mr Barilaro said.
The $300 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.6 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to improve economic growth and productivity with investment in regional communities.
