New technology partnership to link NSW and China

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a new technology partnership between China’s Southern University of Science and Technology and the University of Technology Sydney, starting a three day trade mission to China.

A delegation of more than 50 businesses, UTS and a range of other NSW companies and organisations have joined the Premier in China as part of a state-wide push to promote and export the best of NSW innovation.

“Expanding our expertise in education is a great success story for NSW and this venture by UTS will further strengthen our global reputation as a leader in this field,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“NSW earned over $8 billion in export revenue from international education in 2016 – this means more jobs for NSW.”

The agreement will establish partnerships that deliver across key research areas including advanced manufacturing, robotics and computer innovation.

“This Key Technology Partnership agreement, between UTS and SUSTech, is the product of years of work between UTS and local Shenzhen authorities to develop more collaborative research.”

This announcement followed an earlier visit to meet with some of the world’s leading innovators in smart cities infrastructure and tour a smart cities technology showcase in Shenzhen.

“NSW and Guangdong share a commitment to building smarter cities, and this kind of technology can help us in the future,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“There is much we can learn from successful smart cities, as we develop the Badgerys Creek Aerotropolis and make it a truly world class precinct.
