The multicultural community is a critical part of the fabric of NSW.
To support these communities this Budget commits $85 million over the next four years, including a record ongoing investment for Multicultural NSW.
This is designed to support our multicultural community and provide all NSW residents with access to important government information and services, regardless of where they live or what language they speak.
Boosting Social Cohesion and Countering Violent Extremism
$14.5 million over four years will be aimed at boosting social cohesion and countering violent extremism, including through the delivery of the world leading COMPACT resilience building program.
Establishing Multilingual NSW
Over the 2024 to 2025 financial year, an additional $7.5 million will establish Multilingual NSW as a one-stop-shop across government to provide translation and interpreting services for important messaging, providing hundreds of jobs for community language speakers.
An extra 10,000 interpreting assignments in more than 120 languages will be delivered across NSW Courts following a $3 million investment for 2024 to 2025, creating more than 100 jobs.
Enhancing Community Engagement
Additionally, vulnerable communities will receive enhanced support for community engagement with $4 million in 2024 to 2025 to bolster Community Connection and Wellbeing.
Improving Social Cohesion and Community Resilience
This Budget will help improve social cohesion and community resilience through $2.1 million in 2024 to 2025 for frontline programs to build robust interfaith and cross-cultural relationships, especially targeting online hate and extremism.
Supporting Cultural and State Events
Support will also be given for community organisations to deliver significant cultural events through $5 million for Community Cohesion Grants. A further $1.2 million is also being directed towards supporting significant state events to be held in Sydney, particularly in the West and Southwest.
Building Strong, Diverse Communities
This delivers on the Minns Labor Government’s plan to build strong, diverse communities, to build a better NSW.
