NSW Government partners with Audible to deliver new $240k podcast program
Frequency, a new $240,000 podcast program from Create NSW and Screen NSW in partnership with Audible, the world’s largest producer and provider of original spoken-word entertainment and audiobooks, will support the development of up to eight new Australian stories from NSW storytellers across various genres.
Recipients will be supported with up to $30,000 each to develop their original unpublished works of fiction or non-fiction and the opportunity for their projects to be considered for Audible's original content program.
Minister for the Arts, Don Harwin said Frequency provides a platform for established and emerging writers to develop their ideas into a podcast and is a potential springboard to a global audience.
“From novelists to poets and journalists, playwrights to screenwriters, Frequency is testament to our commitment to support NSW individual writers to share their stories.
“I’m delighted that Audible is working with Create NSW and Screen NSW to guide eight local voices through development of their new podcasts,” said Mr Harwin.
Karen Appathurai Wiggins, Head of Content, Asia Pacific at Audible, said “Audible is a destination for local creators and diverse Australian stories, and the projects selected will show their potential to appeal to a global audience.
“The eight new podcasts will be considered to join popular Audible Original Podcasts including It Burns with Marc Fennell, John Safran vs The Occult, and Debutante: Race, Resistance and Girl Power from Nakkiah Lui and Miranda Tapsell.”
Frequency is open to original, unpublished English-language works of fiction and non-fiction, and NSW-based writers are encouraged to submit their best audio ideas.
Funding will support the development of each podcast, with the opportunity to present production-ready works to Audible for commissioning consideration.
Frequency is managed by Create NSW and Screen NSW and co-funded with Audible.
