NSW Government sets new standard for digital services with cloud strategy
The NSW Government has today committed to an ambitious new strategy to boost the use of public cloud services across the NSW Government.
Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said the NSW Government Cloud Strategy will embed a “public cloud by default” principle across all ICT procurement decisions and require agencies to have the highest security, privacy and contractual safeguards when going to market for computing services.
“Our Cloud Strategy puts in place the strongest security, privacy and procurement foundations to ensure the public sector follows best practice when buying and managing cloud services,” Mr Dominello said. “It is a move that will accelerate innovation, modernise service delivery and create better outcomes for the citizens of NSW.
“A modern and reliable Cloud Strategy and Cloud Policy will enable government-wide adoption of public cloud services in a united and secure manner.”
The cloud refers to the on-demand consumption of computing services and resources, such as servers and storage, over the internet.
The NSW Government Cloud Strategy will provide government agencies with a common vision, direction, and approach for consuming cloud services, and enable agencies to transform and accelerate digital service delivery.
The Strategy has been designed to mitigate the risks associated with cloud services, including cyber security and privacy.
The new Cloud Strategy is the latest initiative from the NSW Digital Transformation program, following on the recent launch of the AI Strategy, the Smart Places Strategy, and the Internet of Things Policy.
