NSW Government's Drought Stimulus Package providing $4.4 million for new industrial land

A new industrial precinct providing the infrastructure local businesses need to expand, invest and generate jobs will be developed at Cobar, thanks to funding from the NSW Government’s $170 million Drought Stimulus Package announced today.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the NSW Government would provide $4.4 million to the Cobar Industrial Subdivision Project.

Mr Barilaro visited the site at Cobar today and said the $4.9 million project for the new industrial land was a major injection into the local economy and the shire, where new industrial land was desperately needed.

“This investment in Cobar will deliver the essential services such as electricity and telecommunications as well as roads, kerbs and gutters needed to power a brand-new industrial precinct,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The Cobar community is being hit hard by the drought and providing a new industrial precinct will generate local jobs, support existing businesses to expand and attract new investment to the region.

“Just as importantly, it will also put money into the pockets of local tradies and suppliers, who will in turn spend money in local shops and on local services, which keeps money flowing through our regional towns.”

Mr Barilaro said the new industrial precinct, on council-owned land, would feature 28 new industrial blocks, laying the foundations for future businesses growth.

“I thank Cobar Shire Council for its commitment to this project and look forward to this project starting soon thanks to the injection of funding from the NSW Government’s Drought Stimulus Package,” Mr Barilaro said.

Cobar Shire Council Mayor Lilliane Brady OAM said stimulus package funding would provide Cobar with a much-needed piece of strategic infrastructure and immediately boost the local economy.

“The new industrial precinct is an exciting development for Cobar and will provide the infrastructure we need to grow and prosper and to diversify our economy during the drought,” Mayor Brady said.

“This is a huge boost for our off-farm industries who have been continuing to do it tough alongside our farmers.

“We thank the NSW Government for its significant financial support of this project and are delighted to be moving forward with this important initiative.”
