Premier opens $7.1 million upgrade at Hurstville Public School

NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli today officially opened new and upgraded $7.1 million education facilities at Hurstville Public School in Sydney’s south.

Mr Baird and Mr Piccoli were joined at today’s event by the Member for Oatley Mark Coure and members of the Hurstville Public School community.

“The NSW Government is transforming our education system, by ensuring staff and students at our public schools have the modern facilities they deserve,” Mr Baird said.

“The delivery of this new two-storey, 11 classroom block at Hurstville Public School is proof of the NSW Government’s commitment to building and improving school infrastructure across the state.

“The opening of these new facilities at Hurstville Public School is one of many significant projects that have been completed, or are underway at NSW schools.

“Since 2011, the NSW Government has committed more than $2.4 billion to school maintenance and infrastructure.

Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli said the Department of Education had used the construction work as an opportunity to make a number of other improvements to the school.

“In addition to building the new classroom block we have: refurbished seven classrooms; created two new practical activities areas; extended and upgraded the administration block; and constructed two new undercover play areas,” Mr Piccoli said.

“Other improvements also include a new lift for disabled access and a new staff car park.

“The facilities at Hurstville Public School are an excellent example of how the NSW Government is catering for the changing needs of schools.

“We are delivering the infrastructure to cater for the needs of a growing Sydney and the projects announced by the Government since 2011 will deliver more than 7,200 net additional public school places across the state.”

Mr Coure said the upgrades are fantastic news for students and teachers.

“I know the school community has campaigned long and hard for these classrooms, so I thank the school principal, teachers and the school community for their support in the planning and delivery of the project, and for the way they have kept the school community updated and involved,” Mr Coure said.
